I don’t know what to say about these guys except for that I really like them. The grass is nice. better than Vancouver snow. I think I like how flat they are too. I’m also pretty into the angle that Mary’s leaning at. 80 degrees? who knows.

December 17 2011. This is jen again. she gets super weird in the winter times. She starts wearing techy gear and MEC fleece pants and she starts talking about plants and rocks and making bird calls real early on saturday mornings. She goes all loopy-like. Anyways, she’ll be back soon i think.

I don’t tend to do this very often, but tobes got on wooster collective and she’s really happy about it and so am I. Vancouver tends to be a bit of a dead zone for quality street art. So this is good news. Go check it out (if its still there) at Union and Quebec on the Georgia Viaduct.

I want to talk about the drive home and about the river and the rope swing and nanook, and Will and how nice his home is, and about leaving rusty and claire behind and about pulling into dylans driveway at 10pm to my bike and to Olio fest and the cave singers and the braids and vancouver and the front porch. I think maybe ill just not for now.

Between Fort Bragg and Winlaw, nothing much was recorded. Wish I could share. We drove through the avenue of giants to see the redwoods all dressed up like chimneys and tunnels. Big red circus freaks hanging over the road. We didn’t really know where to sleep that night and neither of us felt like paying to camp. We headed down a dusty alley and found blackberries instead. Once you start picking blackberries they just keep getting bigger and bigger.
We couldn’t find anywhere free to sleep so we headed to Eureka. We found a coastal pull out off the side of the highway and slept in the car. We were surrounded by dillweed and thick soupy fog. I woke up every hour on the hour. wide awake. every hour. Again, at four to a cops flashlight in my eyes. I couldn’t answer. He probably thought we were in Humboldt County to trim. It was about that time anyway. I woke up to the smell of cigarettes outside the car. Someone I couldn’t see was smoking outside. We were pickled in smoke.
At 7 am or so, I just pulled the seat up and started the car. all wrapped in blankets and pillows. Just taking my bed for a spin around town. We drove straight to Arcata for breakfast. hood ornament oatmeals and tea. I’m pretty sure we took showers that day at the pool too. After all this we continued up the coast, headed for Portland. By this time the hood of the car had started nervously flapping about. We could have flown off the road.
The coast is great. I could talk about how great it is, but I think you get it. Just drive between San Francisco and Florence and let yourself get all teary eyed. Claire read me stories while I drove. We camped one more night in Florence. Climbed some sand dunes, did some blind contour drawings by candle light and called it a day. We made it to Portland the next afternoon and spent the weekend with Colette in Powells books. She’s nice and I like her.
After Portland We drove north east. Somehow we got over the border with moonshine and a bag of grapefruits in the back seat. no harm done. This is Claire rummaging through our closet at Ian and Wills house in Winlaw.
